A Long Journey

Sat Dec 2, 2006, 10:48 PM
It's bitter cold outside and I should be working on a new sculpt, but nope! I'm playing with this. What to say?....

I have been sculpting art doll figuratives for about fifteen years. My dolls have been published in Contemporary Doll Collector, Dolls, Doll Crafter Magazine, and Art Doll Quarterly. I don't like having to go to the expense of traveling so far to national doll shows, but on the other hand, it's gotten my name out there and I've won Best of Show, Best of Catagory, and other nice awards. (Those show are an awfully lot of work, and expense, but they're fun too as ya meet a lot of other artists in your field)

The actual process of becoming an Art Doll Artist or Figurative sculptor is a long journey of study, frustration, self doubt, practice, trial and error, practice, practice, practice, and it's a never ending journey of refining technique, always striving for perfection.

Having been raised on a farm, I learned to sew at a very early age and am still at it by golly! I've studied art all my life as well as various forms of crafts. I'm a landscape and animal painter, a stained glass artist, and an art doll artist.

I use many mediums but mainly polymer clays for my one of a kind figuratives which are hand sculpted without the use of molds. Their costuming is designed specially for each figure without the use of commercial patterns. My American Indian figures are authentically dressed and are hand sewn with senew and hand beaded.

I do commission work, but most of my figures are sold from my website.
